PATENT DIARIES: An intimate look into the life of a U.S. Patent, from its beginnings as a young application, to its tortuous journey through U.S. Patent Office examination, to its success as an issued patent, and the children patents that expand upon its legacy. Specifically, U.S. Pat. Nos. 9,913,799 and 10,123,968, owned by Mary Kay Inc., and directed to COSMETIC COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS OF THEIR USE, will be reviewed, and, basic principles of patentability, examination, and infringement will be discussed
Prior to becoming an attorney, Tama was a chemist for British Petroleum, where she initially worked in BP's analytical chemistry department. She focused on atomic absorption and atomic emission spectroscopy and initiated an AI program for selection of sample preparation methods. As a research chemist on the propylene ammoxidation team, Tama became interested in the patent process and is a co-inventor on a number of patents related to heterogeneous catalysts.
