Hydrophobic Surfaces

Carla Dittman McBain, Ph.D.

Technical Director Coatings, Adhesives and Surface Treatments, OMNOVA Solutions

Wednesday, March 18, Eighty-Three Brewery. No RSVP required. Dinner orders will be taken at Marques Eastend before 5:30PM. Dinner will be served at 6:30PM. The talk will begin at 7:00PM.

Hydrophobic coatings have been available for years and most specialty chemical companies have a range of hydrophobic materials ranging from simple waxes to silicon and fluorinated materials. Recent years have found the marketplace demanding higher performance from hydrophobic surfaces. This has led a re-evaluation of how to use traditional materials, newer nano-tech, and biomimicry-inspired materials to meet market needs.

Carla joined GenCorp/OMNOVA in 1997 in polymer development and applications with responsibilities for nonwovens, construction, adhesives, coatings and paper coating niche products. Previous work experiences centered on colloid and emulsion applications in polymer development and paint formulations with ICI-Glidden. Prior to Glidden, she graduated with a PhD from the University of Akron, Polymer Science department.
